Tips on Luggage and Transport

A trip is not just about the person, but also about what should be taken with you. At this point we will tell you how luggage should be transported.

First of all, it should be noted that there are no legal regulations and therefore everything can be used for transport that is offered by the respective manufacturers in terms of innovative and technically sophisticated storage options. Even self-made devices are allowed, but they can pose a significant risk. We therefore advise you to use commercially available storage options that are also TÜV-tested.

For simple journeys it is advisable to distribute the luggage in several bags or containers on both sides of the scooter in order to keep the center of gravity in the middle of the vehicle. This makes it possible to transport several things.

Many manufacturers offer front luggage bags (cargo bag front) that can transport contents of up to approx. 100l. It should be noted, however, that the center of gravity of the vehicle is shifted forwards so that the bag should not be overloaded.

Another storage option is a backpack. Thanks to the position on your back, you keep your vehicle in balance and at the same time do not have to repack as much after dismounting. However, a backpack can also be uncomfortable on longer journeys and heavy items of luggage. In warmer temperatures, you also sweat a lot.

The helmet compartment offers another storage option for transport. Since the center of gravity of the vehicle shifts downwards, even heavier things can be transported. The disadvantage is that it can get very warm inside because the compartment is close to the engine.

The top case with a capacity of approx. 30l is another storage option. This is a suitcase-like, lockable container that is mounted on or instead of the luggage rack on the rear of the motorcycle using a carrier system and quick-release fasteners. Just like the helmet compartment, the storage space is protected against rain and weather.

For the storage of larger utensils you need a luggage rack, which in most cases is already pre-assembled on your scooter. By shifting the center of gravity to the stern, bulky but not heavy goods can be transported. Due to the open structure of the luggage rack, please ensure that you secure the items carefully.

There is also the option of retrospectively installing a front luggage rack on your vehicle in order to have more loading space available. Due to its position at the front, however, it is not suitable for transporting heavy or bulky luggage.

The luggage boxes with a capacity of up to 300l, which are offered by the manufacturers and are installed on the back of the motorcycle instead of the luggage rack, can be locked and protect your utensils from water and weather. These are mainly offered for tricycles and are available in different sizes.
