Insurance Tips

At this point we would like to give you a brief overview of the subject of "Insuring your vehicle".

Extra insurance must be taken out for every vehicle with a speed of 45km / h or more or a displacement of more than 50ccm. Excluded from this rule are mopeds, which must be insured at all speeds. If you have liability insurance, a vehicle below 45km / h is automatically covered with it. You can also insure this fully or partially comprehensive.

If you need extra insurance, the start of insurance each year is March 1st. From this point on, your old license plates, which were part of your insurance contract, are no longer valid. Your contract will then expire without any additional notice. However, you can have this renewed in good time or conclude a new contract.

After signing a new contract or the continuation of the old one, you will automatically receive your new license plate by post or you can pick it up at the regional office from your local insurance company. You are insured immediately after attaching the new license plate. So that the annually changing license plates are better recognized as new, they are assigned different colors every year - namely blue, green and black.

License plates are mandatory for all mopeds, regardless of the type of insurance. All four-wheeled light vehicles, pedelecs and e-bikes that travel faster than 45 km / h also require a license plate.

As with all other insurances, it is important to compare the tariffs again and again in order to find a suitable and affordable tariff for your vehicle.

When comparing the insurances, the following points should be considered in particular. These apply to pedelecs and e-bikes that travel faster than 45 km / h, as well as mopeds, mopeds and scooters.

Age of the vehicle owner:
Many insurance companies offer discounts for vehicle owners over the age of 23. For people under the age of 18, please note that they are not allowed to apply for insurance themselves. Instead, adult relatives can do this.

Closing Date:
Insurance policies that are taken out after the start of the insurance policy on March 1st only have to be paid for on a pro-rata basis after the contract is signed.

Double insurance:
If you have several vehicles that you do not drive at the same time, insurance for the vehicles used is sufficient. Insurance policies can be re-registered for your unused two-wheelers at any time.

The contract:
Despite the scope of the insurance contract, we recommend that you at least check the points mentioned here. When concluding a contract, make sure that the sums insured for personal injury are at least 15 million euros and for financial losses to 10 million euros. In addition, a loss allowance should be included. This means that your insurance premium will be reduced or at least not increased if no damage occurs in the following years. Some insurances also include future cheaper car insurance if you want to switch to a car.

Customer service and behavior in the event of damage
Make sure that the insurance company offers you a hotline so that you can be in constant contact with any questions or problems. You are also welcome to use reviews of insurance companies on the Internet. It is important to pay attention to how the respective insurance company reacts when a claim is made, how quickly it processes the damage or what costs it pays.

Online conclusion of a contract
Before you conclude a contract online, we advise you to clarify any open questions with the respective insurance provider by telephone. You may be able to negotiate further conditions here.

Partial insurance
A partially comprehensive insurance is not required by law. For certain types of damage, however, it is advisable to take out one. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether or not to consider taking out such insurance. When taking out any insurance, take into account your driving behavior or the location of your vehicle. If your vehicle is outdoors most of the time, consider factors such as the risk of theft or the risk of weather damage.
Partial comprehensive insurance can be taken out with or without a deductible of up to EUR 300.
For e-bikes and pedelecs, there is special fully comprehensive insurance that fits exactly to these vehicles. The battery or certain operating errors, for example, are also insured. In these cases, this type of insurance is preferable to classic two-wheeler insurance.

Sale
If your vehicle is sold, it is possible to transfer your insurance to the new owner. The insurance must be informed of this within a week. After that, difficulties are to be expected on the part of the insurance company, since z. B. Recourse claims could be made against the seller in the event of damage. We therefore recommend keeping the contract and not transferring the old contract to the new owner.

Insurance data
If you use a contribution calculator when selecting your contract, the following data should not be missing:
- start of insurance
- Age
- Type of vehicle with indication of the cubic capacity and the identification number.
